Dresden, Germany, 16th April 2024 - The Natural History Museum Vienna (NHM) is a museum that is fully committed to making a decisive contribution to sustainable development in Austria, Europe, and the world. The research museum with over 270 years of history is located a listed building in the centre of Vienna, on the roof of which a solar system with particularly durable glass-glass modules from Solarwatt has now been installed. The photovoltaic system makes an important contribution to the development of the world-famous nature museum into a CO2-neutral museum as far as possible.
In total, the solar system from Solarwatt consists of 657 modules from the SOLARWATT Panel vision H 3.0 pure series. The overall planning of the installation project was carried out by ATB-Becker Photovoltaik, a long-standing partner of Solarwatt based in Absam in Tyrol. The total output of the system is 257.49 kilowatt peak (kWp) and is made up of the output of the new Solarwatt system and a photovoltaic system installed in 2006 with an output of 14.67 kWp. In addition, the NHM first focussed on generating electricity using solar power back in 1998 and had a solar system with 14.82 kWp installed at that time.
"With a listed and prominent building like the Natural History Museum Vienna, special requirements are of course automatically placed on the design of the solar system," says Peter Bachmann, Vice President Costumer Solutions at Solarwatt, adding: "Our durable glass-glass modules are perfect for this, as they are not only particularly robust against the effects of weather and mechanical stress, but also comply with the necessary fire regulations for the historic building." With the help of the solar system, the NHM can increase the proportion of solar power it produces and uses itself to twelve per cent.
